What's in this series?
Episodic structure and the Family Desk
The series uses an episodic structure in which different families and different reasons for divorce are addressed from one episode to another while the main cast remains. Director Emre Kabakuşak stated in an interview that the subjects and the guest actors change from episode to episode. tabii’s episode summaries also confirm this structure through cases involving marriage, family crises, children, health, and financial problems.
The theme of divorce and family breakdown
TRT’s archive description explains that the series was conceived around rising divorce rates in Turkey over the previous 20 years, the different causes of divorce, and the breakdown of families. This does not mean that the series recounts specific real events; it means that a social issue is explored through fictional family stories.
Direct contact with the audience
In a 2012 interview, the actors said that viewers had sent letters asking for their homes to be saved because the series dealt with family problems. This suggests that some viewers perceived the production not only as fiction but also as a space for advice and solidarity; it is not, however, an independent measurement of the series’ social impact.
Overlap with the social-policy agenda of its period
A parliamentary record refers to Böyle Bitmesin as one of the TRT 1 series addressing divorce during the 2012–2014 period. The same source notes that family, children, and social-responsibility themes became more visible in television productions of the period. This does not prove that the series was adapted from a public project; it only places its themes within the family and social-policy discussions of its broadcast period.
