Plot
Ramazan Keskin is a young blacksmith who is imprisoned after stabbing the mayor in response to an injustice against his father. His imprisonment separates him from Süreyya and from the family life he hopes to build. After learning that she is carrying Ramazan’s child, Süreyya faces further pressure. As Ramazan is transferred between prisons, his opposition to injustice and his support for oppressed prisoners make him a prominent figure among inmates. In Ovacık Prison, he joins forces with Kirmastılı Hasan and Elmas against Abdurrahman Çavuş, who exploits prisoners through gambling, black-market dealings and intimidation. Ramazan’s prison struggle develops alongside his unresolved love for Süreyya and their reunion years later. The series consists of 26 episodes and aired on atv from April 26, 2013, to January 26, 2014.

What's in this series?
From literary source to television series
Tatar Ramazan was developed from Kerim Korcan’s Tatar Ramazan narrative. In a contemporary interview, Bülent İnal explained that the series did not simply adapt one prison story but also brought together other stories and characters from Korcan’s work. The series is therefore an expanded television interpretation of the literary source rather than merely a remake of the film version associated with Kadir İnanır.
Prison, justice and systems of power
The series builds its central conflict around the relationship between official authority and informal power among prisoners. Ramazan’s pursuit of justice is set against the gambling, black-market and coercive order established by Abdurrahman Çavuş. This provides the production with a social framework, but does not establish that its events depict a specific real prison case.
Reinterpreting a character associated with Kadir İnanır
The character gained wide cinematic visibility through the 1990 film adapted from Kerim Korcan’s work and starring Kadir İnanır. The 2013 series brought the same character to television with Bülent İnal, while its promotion explicitly referred to the earlier screen interpretation.
Production and format
The series was produced by Erol Avcı and directed by Cevdet Mercan. Sources credit Can Sinan and Alper Çağlayan as screenwriters; some international catalogues also list Sema Ali Erol and Ali Ercivan among the writing credits. Produced by TMC Film, it aired on atv for 26 episodes.
