Family rivalry expands into conflicts with farmers, local criminal networks and foreign companies seeking influence over Sarıbahçe. What's in this series?
Agricultural economy, class and local power
The series combines a family succession conflict with citrus production, farmer-merchant relations, labor, property and regional power struggles. Critical analyses read Sarıbahçe as a setting where class tensions, local criminal networks and the arrival of large companies become visible.
The historical background of the name Magarsus
The title is connected to the ancient city of Magarsus, located west of Karataş in Adana. Official cultural heritage sources list city walls, a theatre, the Temple of Athena Magarsia, a stadium, a cistern and bath remains from different periods. The site gives the contemporary story a historical context, but the series is not a period adaptation.
A story world rooted in Adana
Yunus Ozan Korkut directed the series and co-wrote it with Mustafa Yürüktümen. Producer Yamaç Okur said that the two writers are childhood friends from Adana and that the story partly draws on their backgrounds with farming and merchant families. This does not identify a specific real family; it describes the creative background of a fictional world.
Family power and gender
Tansu’s attempt to lead the family company exposes not only sibling rivalry but also the struggle of a woman seeking legitimacy within a male-dominated power structure. Academic analyses discuss her leadership struggle alongside the series’ varied portrayals of masculinity.
