Plot

Zülüf is thrown into a blind well and left to die. Kenan rescues her, but she later learns that he is the son of the man her family associates with her father’s murder. Kenan also discovers that Zülüf is the daughter of the person his family holds responsible for a past killing. Their families’ hostility takes a new turn when Kenan is forced by custom to marry Zülüf. While Zülüf rejects the forced marriage, family secrets, revenge and the young couple’s choices intensify the conflict. The relationship between Müslüm and Nefise, who run away together, further increases the tension between the families.

Blood feud and pressure of custom

The series is built around the way hostility between two families shapes the lives of younger characters. Kenan and Zülüf being forced to marry according to custom, and the attempt to prevent Müslüm and Nefise’s relationship, make the tension between individual choice and family norms visible. The sources support these elements as part of the drama’s framework, but do not verify that the series represents a specific real event.

Production context

Güvercin was produced by Pastel Film and broadcast on Star TV, with Altan Dönmez as director. The series premiered on November 24, 2019, and ended with its 16th episode on October 28, 2020. According to news coverage, some filming took place in Şanlıurfa and most of it in Gaziantep.

Love in conflict with family history

The central relationship is framed not only as a romance between two young people but also as a choice surrounded by the families’ stories of past killings and revenge. Kenan rescuing Zülüf and then learning about her family identity establishes the conflict between personal compassion and inherited hostility.
