What's in this series?
Original story and production context
NOW credits the production to Ay Yapım, production to Kerem Çatay, the original story to Meriç Acemi, the screenplay to Çağla Kızılelma and direction to Çağrı Bayrak. The official credits do not identify a novel, film or series as the source work.
Class, beauty and symbolic capital
An academic analysis discusses the series through the role of beauty in social acceptance and the production of symbolic capital. Şebnem’s acceptance into a privileged social environment after aesthetic procedures places class mobility, appearance and social approval at the centre of the series’ themes.
Social inequality and survival strategies
The official descriptions stress that the injustices in Şebnem’s life push her toward crime and an ongoing struggle for survival. The series therefore follows a woman trying to build her own life within class barriers and family power relations.
Criminal past and identity conflict
The drama is structured around the tension between Şebnem’s present identity and the criminal past she hides. Niyazi’s return and Mesut’s investigation bring the persistence of the past to the centre of the story.
