Plot
The eight-part 1984 series is adapted from Tarık Buğra’s novel of the same name. Set in Anatolia after World War I, particularly around Akşehir, it follows the intertwined paths of Çolak Salih, a veteran who returns after losing an arm, and Mehmet Reşit Efendi, an Istanbul cleric known locally as the Istanbul Hodja. Initially loyal to the sultan and the Istanbul Government, the Hodja opposes the National Forces. After an arrest order is issued against him, he takes refuge with Çakırsaraylı’s band and begins to be known as Küçük Ağa. His encounters with occupation conditions, local resistance, and the conflict between Istanbul and Ankara gradually lead him to join the national struggle.
