What's in this series?
A Youth Story Set in 1998 Istanbul
The series places its high-school story in 1998 Istanbul and frames it through adult Işık’s memories. Netflix highlights its nostalgic, teen and high-school qualities. The period setting is presented as a fictional narrative choice rather than a depiction of a specific historical event.
Friendship, Belonging and the Courage to Be Oneself
Although the initial goal is to bring Burcu and Kemal together, the students’ plan reveals their own emotional conflicts and dependence on one another. Netflix identifies friendship, love and the courage to be oneself as central elements of the series.
School Discipline and Student Autonomy
The threat of expulsion, Necdet’s disciplinary authority and Burcu’s defense of the students create a conflict between institutional rules and youthful autonomy. This is a fictional school conflict, not a documented real event.
An Ay Yapım and Meriç Acemi Netflix Series
