Biography
Metin Çekmez was a Turkish actor who worked in theatre, cinema and television. Born in Istanbul on 26 July 1945, he graduated from Pertevniyal High School and then studied journalism at Istanbul’s two-year Private Journalism School. His connection with the stage began in 1962, when he and his older brother, Dinçer Çekmez, took the entrance examination for Istanbul City Theatres and appeared as extras in Hamlet. He subsequently developed his acting through a master-apprentice tradition and joined the permanent company of Istanbul City Theatres in 1970. His film debut came with Ertem Eğilmez’s 1972 production Tatlı Dillim. Among his best-documented television roles are Cevdet in Süper Baba, Burhan Evliyaoğlu in 1001 Nights and Rıza Yılmaz in The Girl Named Feriha. Çekmez died in Aydın on 25 August 2021.
