What's in this series?
The 1990s in an Aegean town
The series explores how the economic and social changes that began in major cities during the 1990s appeared in a small Aegean settlement, where relationships remained slower-paced and closely connected. According to Renan Bilek, the production focuses on the tension between the need to earn money and the persistence of friendship, solidarity and traditional relationships.
The Yeşilova atmosphere and Ödemiş
Filming took place in villages connected to Ödemiş in İzmir, with the area around Birgi serving as one of the principal filming locations. The Ödemiş region was an important production context for the series’ local speech and town atmosphere.
Radio, solidarity and everyday life
Ova FM and İsmail’s request program represent the town’s shared listening habit and the indirect communication among its residents. The series connects radio-centered everyday events with family, friendship, romance and livelihood concerns.
Religious symbols in comedy
An academic study examined all 75 episodes in terms of religious symbols and identified themes involving belief, worship, religious identity and religious discourse. It discusses how religious identity, particularly through the character Cemil, is combined with everyday life, misunderstanding and comedy.
